Ranger unlocks at Survival Level 175. Start her damage with Crossbow, then use Huntress and Medic for a Crit squad with recovery, or Engineer and Mechanic for control. In Endurance, Good Boy: Retriever can collect Elite Boss tags so you can reduce unsafe pickup detours.
How to unlock Ranger
Reach Survival Level 175, the requirement in the official 1.0 announcement. This is general progression, separate from team level in a run and from a Survivor Rank. The unlock guide groups the other roster goals you can advance along the way.
Ranger's personal mission Seeding comes after character access. 1.0.1 changed it to allow any difficulty. Use the Mission Log for that mission's objective rather than treating it as a different character unlock.
Weapon and ability choices
- Crossbow: develop a working damage route before widening the kit. Repeater Crossbow and Flarebolt can fire bolts separately after 1.0.1; choose the offered branch that matches your current weapon and damage-type investment.
- Good Boy: Retriever: add it for Endurance pickup access. The official 1.0.1 change specifically adds collection of Elite Boss tags.
- Animal Whistle: Panic: develop it when crowding is the problem. Its on-hit trigger was fixed in 1.0.1. Mouse Trap is a related item choice when using Fear, following that patch's Fear/Taunt compatibility change.
- Falcon: choose it as a companion damage branch. A Marked-to-shuriken interaction is recorded with Ghost; use that pairing's node when planning around the effect.
Which teammates should you bring?
Huntress / Medic is the starting Crit-and-recovery plan. The community synergy record links Huntress to Marked-target benefits, and Huntress with Medic to Arrow Rain and Elite/Boss recovery. Establish the required nodes and selected skills; then follow the full Ranger build order.
Engineer / Mechanic is a separate control plan using the documented Incense/Electrified, Good Boy freeze-mine and Ice Turret Taunt links. Switching all three roles changes the upgrade budget, so compare that full squad rather than adding every control branch to the Crit build.
Critical, Luck and your next upgrade
The official release identifies team Critical, Luck and healing as Ranger's support role. First make the weapon functional. Add Critical support to a working damage route, and use Luck as a later choice when immediate damage and survival are stable. 1.0.1 improved Luck's impact on Military Training rarity; 1.0.1b removed its 1,000 cap.
Start a Ranger squad plan with your actual Rank and mode. If a needed permanent node is locked, keep investing in the damage route available now and develop that node between attempts.
