Lead Ranger with Huntress and Medic: build Crossbow first, add Huntress's Bow and the Marked-target link, then fund Medic recovery. Use this Crit-focused plan for a normal progression or Endurance attempt. For Boss Rush, move damage ahead of optional pet and support branches so the team is ready for the ten-minute finale.

The squad and the skills that connect it

  • Ranger, leader: develop the main Crossbow route. Her official role includes team Critical, Luck and healing support. She unlocks at Survival Level 175.
  • Huntress, first recruit: establish Bow damage, then use the permanent pairing node that improves her attacks against Marked targets. Maintaining the target condition is the reason to choose this partner.
  • Medic, second recruit: establish the recovery branch you need. If you choose Arrow Rain on Huntress, its community-documented Medic link adds toxic fumes and recovery on Elite/Boss kills.

These pair effects are listed in GoldMath's Version 1.0 reference. Buy their corresponding permanent nodes and select the relevant abilities during the run. Recruitment opens the composition; the node and skill choices make each interaction useful.

Crossbow, Repeater Crossbow and Flarebolt

Make Crossbow the first developed damage route. Continue the available upgrades toward the weapon branch you have unlocked. When Repeater Crossbow or Flarebolt is offered, match that route with your current damage-type and weapon bonuses rather than switching because another name looks newer.

Patch 1.0.1 lets Repeater Crossbow and Flarebolt fire bolts separately. That is a current firing-behavior change to use when handling scattered enemies; it does not establish a DPS winner between the branches.

The 1.0 release also changed burst and multi-projectile attacks to use a Critical roll for the group rather than independently for every hit. Judge a Crit investment by how the route performs against the same objective, instead of assuming more projectiles mean more independent Critical rolls.

Upgrade order from opening to established squad

Ranger upgrade decisions by run stage
StageDefault choiceMove this earlier when needed
Ranger aloneCrossbow development and matching weapon supportMovement if pickups repeatedly trap the squad.
Huntress recruitedA working Bow route, then the unlocked Marked-target linkBear Trap if lack of space prevents damage uptime.
Medic recruitedRecovery for an attrition problem; Arrow Rain link if using that skillDamage if health is stable but targets remain alive.
Core damage worksGood Boy or another companion branch with a specific jobGood Boy: Retriever for Endurance tag collection.
Preparing for Boss Rush finaleFinish useful weapon damage before minute tenTake required recovery if the squad is losing health before the fight.

If the offered synergy is still locked, spend the level on the existing damage route and revisit the permanent tree between runs. If the trio is complete but Marked is not active on the target, use the damage branch that works now while establishing the required target interaction.

Good Boy, Falcon or Animal Whistle?

Good Boy: Retriever has a concrete Endurance job: 1.0.1 added collection of tags dropped by Elite Bosses. Add it when retrieving drops is pulling you into unsafe detours, after the squad can already kill targets.

Animal Whistle: Panic is a control choice when getting surrounded is the failure point. The same patch fixes its on-hit trigger. If the current plan uses Fear, Mouse Trap is a relevant chest option because 1.0.1 explicitly expanded that item's interaction to Fear as well as Taunt.

Falcon is an optional companion damage route for this trio. Its documented Marked-to-shuriken interaction involves Ghost, who is not in the default Ranger / Huntress / Medic squad. Take Falcon for its active job rather than expecting that particular Ghost link from the wrong team.

The Luck cap was removed in 1.0.1b. That expands a stat ceiling; it does not make Luck a substitute for unfinished damage. Read whether an offered bonus affects Ranger, Huntress, weapons, abilities or the whole squad before assigning it a place in the plan.

Default, Endurance, Boss Rush and control alternative

For Default, establish all three jobs: Ranger damage, Huntress target damage, Medic recovery. For Endurance, add Retriever and preserve access to drops while developing damage. For Boss Rush, prioritize a useful weapon route ahead of a late optional pet branch; the Final Boss arrives at ten minutes. The dedicated Boss Rush squad is another starting choice if that is your main objective.

If you want control instead of the Crit/recovery core, compare Ranger / Engineer / Mechanic as a complete alternative. The community reference links Engineer with Incense/Electrified and Mechanic with Good Boy freeze mines and Ice Turret Taunt. Develop those named abilities and nodes as a separate plan; they compete for upgrades with the default Bow and recovery investment.

Open Ranger / Huntress / Medic in the planner. Set actual Ranks and the target mode. After the run, use Run History to compare weapon/ability contribution and note whether damage, attrition or access to pickups was the limiting factor.
